Hello, I’m Denise

Movement. Meditation. Body work. Ayurvedic Massage

Over 25 years ago I walked into a local community Yoga class. It was inclusive, friendly, open and the Yoga left me feeling grounded, awake and a few inches taller! My interest in both Yoga and its philosophy deepened over the years and my teacher at the time, Maureen Hill, eventually encouraged me to go deeper in my own practice. I have been offering sessions since 2008 and hold a British Wheel of Yoga diploma and E-RYT500 hours with Yoga Alliance. I also offer Prana Flow (500hrs) and beginners Qigong and I am an accredited Trauma Informed Yoga teacher. Treatments in Ayurvedic massage therapy are available weekly.

What to expect in a session

My Yoga and Qigong classes are accessible and welcoming and incorporate flowing and creative sequencing, yet with a compassionate and gentle approach so that all abilities can benefit from the practice. Some down-to-earth philosophy is weaved into our sessions along with breath work and meditation. Sessions may also include Qigong-infused forms, Tantric and Tibetan energy practices as well as tapping, massage and sound - come with an open mind!

A number of our classes are trauma sensitive, all are guided in such a way so that you can explore a little more or rest a little more. We move, we breathe, we laugh, we do the work, we have fun with it whilst always honouring the roots and broad teachings of these transformative practices.

I also offer seated Yoga both online and within senior living villages around Birmingham as part of their dementia care and mental health wellbeing teams.

Inspiration

I give huge thanks to the incredible teachers and facilitators who have, and continue, to inspire me including Devika Gurung, Shiva Rea, Andrea Kwiatkowski, Beverley Nolan, Maureen Howell, Mimi Kuo-Deemer and Sunita Passi - please take a look at what these wonderful people do.

Introducing guest teacher

Maureen Howell

Maureen began her yoga journey in the early 90’s and began teaching gentle Hatha Yoga in 2006 whilst on the third year of the British Wheel of Yoga Teacher Training Diploma.  Maureen became a fully qualified British Wheel of Yoga Diploma Teacher (BWY Dip) in 2007 and a Teaching Practice Observation Teacher in 2008 (BWY TPOT).

Maureen began teaching Dynamic Hatha Yoga, Power Yoga, Vinyasa Flow Yoga and Ashtanga Yoga in 2007.  She loved teaching these styles of physical yoga but yearned for a more holistic and spiritually fulfilling practice.  Maureen found what she was looking for when she discovered Jivamukti Yoga in 2013 and has practiced Jivamukti Yoga ever since, attending Jivamukti workshops, classes and immersions whenever she can.  Maureen was so enamoured with the Jivamukti Method that she trained to become a Jivamukti Yoga teacher and qualified in 2019 as a 300-Hour Certified Jivamukti Yoga Teacher.

Maureen has taught yoga for over 14 years now and provides quality, inspirational and safe yoga classes to all students giving them a real and authentic experience, helping them on their yoga journey.  After 7 years of service teaching yoga in big brand name gyms and health clubs from 2006 - 2013, she made the conscious decision to leave that sector behind and devote her time to serving in the local community where she has spent the last 7 years quietly teaching yoga to all those who come to her classes.   Over the years a number of students have been so inspired by Maureen that they have gone on to become yoga teachers themselves.  Maureen’s passion, enthusiasm and love for yoga comes through her natural teaching style as she joyfully guides students through their practice.  Maureen is grateful to all of her teachers and to all student’s past, present and future.
