DENISE

My love of Yoga began around 1998 in a cold old local leisure centre on a Sunday afternoon. In my late teens and early twenties I travelled abroad and my interest in both Yoga and eastern philosophy deepened. My teacher, Maureen Hill, eventually encouraged me to go deeper in my practice so I studied for a while with the British Wheel of Yoga, eventually taking my initial teacher training in 2008 through Sun-Power Yoga. I also hold The British Wheel of Yoga diploma and 500 hours Yoga Alliance. I am a qualified Restorative Yoga and pregnancy Yoga teacher and also teach chair Yoga, meditation and Yoga Nidra.

My teaching has evolved over the years into mindful practices, based around Vinyasa – flowing, fluid, intelligent sequencing, but with a compassionate and gentle approach so that all abilities can benefit from the practice. I have been strongly influenced by my time in Nepal where I studied with the amazing Devika Gurung, bringing Tibetan practices into my teaching, along with meditation, pranayama and relaxation techniques. Other influences over the years have come from the teachings of Andrea Kwiatkowski, Jeanette Colebridge-Vaze, Anne-Marie Newland, Beverley Nolan, Philip Xerri and Lesley Isaccson. More recently I have taken another 200 hour training with the incredible Shiva Rea in the Prana Vinyasa Method -I give huge thanks to all of these wonderful teachers.

My classes are fun and flowing with a focus on self confidence, body allignment, breath control and stress reduction. I offer group classes, private 1:1 sessions, workshops, retreats, sessions for councils, charities and businesses and meditation sessions for all ages and abilities. I am also an holistic massage therapist offering Aromatherapy, Hot stone, Indian head and Swedish massage.

Small World Yoga was born after our travels around the world  – After teaching in England for a number of years I then taught in Europe & Nepal whilst travelling. Inspired by the general fitness and well-being of so many other nations I wanted to share some of the teachings from my time abroad. Whether it be Tibetan Meditation & healing from Nepal, Pranayama from India, Tai-Chi-inspired movement from Vietnam or Whirling from the Middle East there is something for everyone in all of my Yoga classes. The world is an inspiring place!
